In weight class sports; why do some athletes sacrifice their health and strength to weigh less? ?
I find it to be stupid, but I don’t compete in combat sports. “Fight only when necessary, but when you fight; fight to kill.” lol
But why do so many athletes at the high school and professional level seek to compete at a weight class lower than their actual HEALTHY weight?
Are they scared to fight people their own weight? Or what?
this is done to gain a perceived advantage, and if the the sudden drop in weight is not to severe it does work. this is also done in weight lifting and power lifting. spending half the night in a sauna will loose water weight which will have little effect on muscle but will allow you to compete at a lower weight class.
it has nothing to do with fear but it does have everything to do with winning and setting records.
